Artist Statement

Within the world there is an experience all us humans, beings and plants have of life. This life is the electrical energy of being, source energy or even reiki.

Within LIFE we get to do tons of explorations and make tons of mistakes, epic fails, internal journeys and create experiences. How this comes out in a visual form, in visual art, is practiced in paint, embroidery floss and patterned landscape. Creating art to bring the internal, external. Building surfaces with texture and drenched in color, from self portrait to patterned landscape, color and geometry of form takes precedence in a deeply guttural, psychological, majical and intentional way. Through a fluid, intuitive material process, coasting through different mediums, from embroidery and fiber art to techniques in painting.

Within the boundaries of an art piece energy is exchanged, experienced and explored. Mythologies and dialogue between symbols are interpreted and recognized. The importance of connection to earth and life force energy are seen in the application and use of natural dyes, some harvested from my own dye garden grown in a busy urban neighborhood in Baltimore City, MD. Connection to growing, nature and the cycles of seasons facilitates the art making process.

As important as internal growth is, the pursuit of knowledge is becoming a controversial idea, often followed by a growing concern about the ability to access knowledge in a world growing painfully conservative. As a woman in America, seeing libraries and facts brought into questions, reminds one of the pursuit of knowledge in the biblical sense. How women have been highlighted and punished for pursuing curiosity, pursuing a deeper knowing and being barred from that pursuit. Snakes reference, knowledge, duality, transformation, wellness, health, healing and change. When confronted with a snake we confront our fear and grow from that or we shrink away. My interest in snakes stems from an interest in knowledge and the idea of original sin. The patriarchy is still evident in society. It is my mission as artist, coach, storyteller, truth teller and visionary to bring knowledge and rebellion to the forefront.
